Thomas Czarnowski, AIA, FAAR, Principal
Tom Czarnowski has a varied and extensive professional background , He is currently managing the Emanuel Cellar Courthouse and he served as Project Manager for the recently completed Queens Family Court project. Pr ior to joining Gruzen Samton, Tom served as Director of International Operations at Fox & Fowle Architects in New York where he was responsible for projects in Korea, Malaysia, and China. He has also held the positions of Vice-President with Emilio Ambasz & Associates and as an Associate with Edward Larrabee Barnes. Mr. Czarnowski was educated at Princeton University, studied at Cambridge University in England and was a Fellow at the American Academy in Rome.

Susan Drew, AIA, LEED-AP, Principal
As
an architect and planner, Ms Drew's expertise is directing
large-scale urban design and planning projects, with a rigorous
attention to detail. Her 28 years of experience cover architectural
design, facility analysis, planning, programming, master planning,
and urban design projects. Ms Drew is the coordinator for
environmental design for Gruzen Samton, and responsible for
incorporating sustainable design practices into the firm's
projects. She brings expertise with respect to project management,
building evaluations, feasibility studies, design, and policy
development. Ms. Drew's experience includes a broad range
of facility types, both new buildings and renovations, for
K-12 schools, university buildings, offices, justice facilities,
service buildings, and libraries. Ms. Drew is responsible
for the preparation, administration, and quality of the firm's
planning projects. Ms. Drew received her bachelor of Architecture
degree from Carnegie Mellon University. She is active in the
AIA Committee on the Environment. |

Jacquelyn Hill, Principal
Ms.
Hill oversees the day-to-day accounting operations for the
firm, and is heavily involved with strategic budgeting in
order to ensure overall financial growth and stability. Ms.
Hill has over 16 years of experience with the Architectural/
Engineering community. Her prior business background was in
design and merchandising, and has enabled Ms. Hill to bring
a practical and pragmatic approach to the firm's financial
goals. |

Michael
A. Kazan, APA, Principal
As
the Principal responsible for the firm's planning and interior
design practice, Mr. Kazan divides his time between Gruzen
Samton's New York City and Alexandria, Virginia offices. He
provides leadership for many of the firm's large scale public,
institutional, and private sector projects across a broad
range of facilities types. His areas of concentration include
master planning, feasibility studies, interior design services
for large-scale office installations, and facilities planning
for educational, justice, and governmental clients. Over the
course of his career, Mr. Kazan has developed a special expertise
in campus development planning and has led many such efforts
for universities and colleges throughout the New York region.
His approach entails integrating urban design and campus planning
principles as equal elements in the search for physical solutions. Mr. Kazan has directed
the Alexandria office since its inception in 1994. Focused
on the public sector, notable projects have included the planning
and interior design for the U.S Environmental Protection Agency
National Headquarters, the District of Columbia's John Wilson
Building, and a master plan for the DC Courts system. During
the past eight years, Mr. Kazan has built a national reputation
in an effort to implement environmentally appropriate design
in public buildings and has worked closely with the EPA to
promote its work through articles and conferences where he
has been a frequent speaker.Mr. Kazan graduated Cum
Laude from New York Institute of Technology in 1971 with a
Bachelor of Architecture degree. He then attended the Graduate
School of Urban Design & Planning at Pratt Institute.
Mr. Kazan has been with Gruzen Samton since 1975. |
